Things could not be going any better for singer-songwriter Mark Masri. His Christ- mas album, “Christmas is…” is a top seller, he is currently touring with Jim Brickman on the Beautiful World Christmas tour and his much-anticipated new album, “La Voce” will be released in January.
I first heard Masri live in June at Falls- view Casino Resort during the tapings of Jim Brickman’s Beautiful World PBS Specials. To say I was blown away is an understatement. When Masri took the stage and proceeded to start the Italian opera song, “Caruso,” there seemed to be a collective gasp and a look of surprised wonderment on the faces of everyone in the audience, including myself. When Canadian musical talents Mark Masri and Amy Sky take the stage together at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville this July 3, it will mark the culmination of a seven-year collaborative journey. It will also be the first time these two vocal powerhouses have ever performed live together in concert.
Since meeting in 2003, the two Canadian singer-songwriters have been working on what has become Masri’s soon-to-be released album, La Voce, due out June 29. That initial introduction seven years ago could not have come at a better time for both artists. Read more

At first glance, it’s easy to assume that rising young Canadian vocal star Mark Masri is of Italian descent. After all, his new CD is entitled La Voce, he sings numbers like Lucio Dalla’s “Caruso,” “Ce Sempre Musica,” and “Buongiorno Principessa” in very fluent Italian, and he’s dressed fashionably in Hugo Boss.
In his recent Tandem interview, Masri sets the record straight, He was born and raised in Pickering, and educated in Scarborough, where, he recalls, “I was likely the only lighter-skinned person in my class. My father is Lebanese and my mother is from an Anglo, Scottish and Dutch mix, so I’ve been exposed to many different cultural influences in my life. Then I married an Italian woman, and I have become very close to the Italian language because of my wife’s family. They’re always speaking Italian, so I had to learn to understand enough to find out enough of what they were saying about me. It was more of a defense mechanism!” Masri laughs. “I do love the European approach to fashion and the passion contained in their music and their whole approach to life.” Read more
